The MMF will be undertaking province-wide community engagement sessions with citizens from all MMF Regions and Locals throughout the summer of 2016. These sessions will provide MMF citizens with information on the following topics as well as seek input on the subject matters for negotiation the MMF should include in a Framework Agreement with Canada:

  • the history and purpose of the MMF Land Claim,
  • an overview of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in the MMF Land Claim case,
  • an overview of Canada’s six stage negotiation process for land claims agreements,
  • updates on the Exploratory Discussions as well as other Métis rights related issues.

At the same time, the MMF Negotiations Team, led by the MMF President, and, receiving ongoing direction from the MMF Cabinet will be engaging in the Exploratory Discussions with Canada with the goal of reaching a mutually agreeable Framework Agreement by the end of September 2016. In the same way federal Cabinet will need to approve any Framework Agreement that is ultimately negotiated, the MMF will need to confirm its support for the Framework Agreement as well. **ALL MEETING TIMES AND LOCATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.**
