September 23, 2013

The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) will be holding its 45th Annual General Assembly (AGA) in the City of Brandon at the Keystone Centre on September 28th and 29th. Thousands of Metis delegates from across the province will come together to celebrate our recent Supreme Court of Canada Metis Land Claim Victory with a very special assembly theme “Our Time has Come“..

MMF President David Chartrand and the Board of Directors will be welcoming approximately 3,000 delegates to Brandon for the two day event, which is the biggest.

General Assembly of any Aboriginal government in the country.Among the scheduled dignitaries are the Right Honourable Premier of Manitoba, Greg Selinger; Metis National Council President, Clem Chartier; MLA Reg Helwer; Her worship Brandon Mayor Sherri Dector-Hirst and Infinity Womens Secretariat President, Anita Campbell. A featured event of the assembly will be the “Youth Achieving Excellence” youth conference and also performances by young up and coming, local and regional fiddle players.

Metis Youth have always been an important part of the AGA, and this year the Youth Conference hosted by the Metis Education and Training (MET) will help engage Metis Youth in their culture and heritage through the knowledge and stories shared with them by our Elders and successful Metis citizens. The Youth Conference goes hand-in-hand with this year’s theme; “Metis Land Claims Victory”, which will focus on the historic importance of the recent Land Claims case win in this past March of this year.

Metis entertainment is always excellent during the AGA and this year is no different with a performance of Metis musicians and youth fiddlers hosted by the “Youth Achieving Excellence” Youth Conference on the evening of September 29th. All proceeds for the event are going to the MMF Bereavement Fund.
