Manitoba Metis Federation's Metis Employment and Training signs MOU with Canonbie Contracting Limited: an Aecon Company

The Metis Employment and Training Department of the Manitoba Metis Federation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Edmonton based, Canonbie Contracting Ltd.

The MOU will focus on the recruitment, training and placement of Metis into the construction industry throughout Manitoba and throughout Western Canada.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) describes a bilateral or multilateral agreement between two or more parties.

The Manitoba Metis Federation hosted the signing with MMF Minister of Aboriginal Skills Employment Training Strategy, Mr. John Fleury in attendance. Representing Canonbie were Mike DeRocco, Labour Relations Manager; Chuck Brenton Vice President of Operations for Canonbie, as well as, Bill Clarke Vice President of Business Development & Aboriginal Affairs for Aecon.

Canonbie is an Alberta based multi-discipline construction company offering superior civil, structural, mechanical (process piping & equipment), electrical, instrumentation, insulation, scaffolding, boilermaking, turn-around and maintenance services.

The Manitoba Metis Federation's Metis Employment & Training Department operates through funds provided under the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Strategy (ASETS) Agreement with Employment & Skills Development Canada (ESDC).
