Manitoba Metis Federation Announces Change to Hydro Portfolio

December 21, 2015

Winnipeg, MB – During the recent Cabinet meetings of the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) held December 19-20, 2015, the Métis Government passed a resolution making a change in the Hydro Portfolio.

“The MMF recognizes Hydro as an important caucus portfolio, however the energy sector is much larger than just Hydro” explained President David Chartrand, “Other areas of importance to the Métis Community and Governance include solar power, wind power, natural gas and oil. These sectors and their related developments and infrastructure will need to be addressed by the MMF as they have potential impact on the Métis Community and its lands.”

The MMF Cabinet voted unanimously to transition the Hydro portfolio to the Energy and Infrastructure portfolio. Minister Jack Park will hold the title of “Minister of Energy and Infrastructure” for this expanded portfolio.

“This important change will permit the Métis Government to address concerns and needs related to the impact of economic and land development initiatives in the energy sector,” stated Minister Park, “I am grateful for the confidence my fellow Métis Government leaders have placed in me. I commit myself to diligently working on behalf of our Métis Citizens to ensure our concerns are met and we are duly consulted as rights bearing Métis Citizens.”

The change in the portfolio came into effect on Saturday, December 19, 2015.
