Manitoba Metis Federation Congratulates New Provincial Administration

May 4, 2016

Winnipeg, MB – The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) would like to extend congratulations to Premier Brian Pallister and his Cabinet Ministers who were sworn in at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights.

“The ceremony took place in the Heart of the Métis Homeland – just steps from the Upper Fort Garry Site. This was the seat of Louis Riel’s Provisional Government which created the province of Manitoba and brought it into Confederation,” said President Chartrand.  “Our Métis government is prepared to work with the Premier and his Ministers in building a better Manitoba for all Manitobans, including the Métis, the Founders of Manitoba.”

For the important portfolio of Minister of Indigenous and Municipal Relations, Premier Pallister appointed Elaine Clark, a former member of the local Chamber of Commerce.

“This portfolio carries a large responsibility, and it is integral the MMF have a voice in discussions regarding provincial matters that affect our Métis Citizens,” said President Chartrand. “My ministers and I are eager to work with Minister Clark as she undertakes her role in the Government of Manitoba.”

The Manitoba Metis Federation also looks forward to meeting Premier Brian Pallister and his new Cabinet, and working with the new government to effectively represent the Métis and ensure our issues are addressed in a respectful, transparent, government-to-government relationship.
