Manitoba Metis Federation Celebrates New Affordable Métis Housing with Planned Ribbon Cutting

September 13, 2016

Winnipeg, MB – Access to affordable, high-quality housing is the key to success for our Métis Citizens, which the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tomorrow at 12 pm for the newly built Métis housing triplex at 527-12th Street in Brandon, Manitoba.

As part of its mandate to supply affordable housing to Métis Citizens, the MMF is engaged in erecting new cost-effective residences throughout the province of Manitoba. The recently completed triplex is the latest building constructed within the MMF’s current housing initiative.

“Affordable housing allows our Métis Citizens and their families to maintain a good quality of life,” says Minister of Housing for the MMF, Will Goodon. “It helps ensure there is a strong, stable foundation for our Métis children to be raised happy and healthy.”

Building the triplex was made possible through the Government of Manitoba’s partnership with the MMF that began in 2013. The provincial government, through the Manitoba Housing & Renewal Corporation, committed 5.5 million dollars over five years to help create more high-grade, affordable housing for Métis families.

The new triplex houses three suites, each boasting a size of 1069 square feet. One suite has already been rented, with tenants set to move in to the other two suites at the beginning of October this year.

Len Isleifson, MLA for Brandon East, will also attend the ceremony. Isleifson will join Minister Goodon in cutting the ribbon to celebrate the newly constructed triplex and new housing opportunities for Métis Citizens in Brandon.

“I am thrilled to participate in this ribbon cutting as the continued growth of communities are dependent on building healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods for Manitoban families and this includes the development of additional affordable housing,” says Isleifson. “We will celebrate the opening of these wonderful new buildings and acknowledge all the hard work associated with transforming them from vision to reality. We all share a vision of a safe, affordable community to call home where our families grow and prosper. I congratulate the Manitoba Metis Federation for the completion of these projects and for creating additional affordable rental housing options for Brandon area families.”
