Manitoba Metis Federation to Invest in North End Hockey Program

March 23, 2017

Winnipeg, MB – The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is proud to make a $10K investment in families and youth in Winnipeg’s North End. Today President David Chartrand made this presentation to the youth and leaders of the North End Hockey Program (NEHP). This donation will help address costs associated with registration, equipment, ice fees, transportation and training for the youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity to play hockey due to financial barriers.

“The MMF is proud to make this investment to support families and youth in our city,” said President Chartrand. “Providing sport opportunities for youth residing in Winnipeg’s North End, many of whom are Métis, is essential to the future wellness and the health of our community. Sports like hockey help our youth build vital interpersonal, cooperative, and critical thinking skills they will need on their path to one day becoming leaders in our community.”

“Being involved in organized sport provides a foundation for our children and youth to succeed. The North End Hockey Program empowers children, youth and families to have a great sense of self pride, and a sense of belonging with their team, community and culture,” said Dana Riccio, Ma Mawi Communications and Events Manager.

The NEHP, managed by Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, helps provide children and youth ages five to 17 years old living in Winnipeg’s North End an opportunity to play organized hockey. It relies on yearly project based funding to provide children and youth living in Winnipeg’s North End with this opportunity. The MMF invites organizations and businesses across the province to also support & invest in community youth programs such as the North End Hockey Program.
