Manitoba Metis Federation Celebrating Annual Christmas Open House with Donations to Two Community Organizations

Winnipeg, MB – In keeping with the spirit of the season, the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) will be making two donations: one to the Christmas Cheer Board and the other to the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Inc.. Both presentations will take place at its Annual Christmas Open House on Friday, December 8, 2017. At noon the MMF will present its cheque to Kai Madsen of the Christmas Cheer Board. The presentation to Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Inc. will take place immediately after at 12:15 p.m.

“We are proud to make these donations to two very deserving community organizations,” said President David Chartrand. “We made a commitment to Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Inc. in March of this year to support their community initiatives and we have built a longstanding relationship with the Christmas Cheer Board. We believe in the services both organizations provide each and every year.”

Members of the public are invited to join with staff and elected representatives of the Manitoba Métis Government beginning at 11 a.m. in Room 16, 150 Henry Avenue. Guests will have an opportunity to tour the MMF building, as each department will be festively decorated to reflect the joy of the holidays.

About the Christmas Cheer Board

The Christmas Cheer Board was started in 1919 by a number of Winnipeg churches. The original intent was to provide Christmas Hampers and toys for the widows and orphans of the soldiers lost during World War One. Today the Christmas Cheer Board provides assistance to families receiving Employment Income Assistance and to many working poor.

The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Inc. (Ma Mawi) was started in 1984 by committed community members who sought an Indigenous solution to supporting and rebuilding families.
