Manitoba Metis Federation and Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum
to Host Free Louis Riel Day Celebration

Winnipeg, MB – In honour of Louis Riel Day the Manitoba Metis Federation and Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum will be hosting a free Louis Riel Day celebration. The event includes free access to the museum and cultural programming and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are pleased to once again partner with our friends at Saint-Boniface Museum to celebrate Louis Riel Day,” said Mona Buors, MMF Associate Minister for Heritage, Culture, Sports and Youth. “Louis Riel was instrumental in the creation of the Province of Manitoba and he also contributed greatly to Canada. This celebration is a fantastic opportunity for Manitobans to come and learn about Riel and see some of his artifacts.”

“We are once again delighted to partner and collaborate with the MMF to provide all Manitobans with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate Louis Riel and the Métis people's contributions to the development of our society,” said Vania Gagnon, Director of Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum. “We are looking forward to sharing our space and great cultural programming with all who attend and are particularly humbled by yet another opportunity to welcome guests into our Riel exhibit which, thanks to partners like the MMF, is the largest collection of Riel artifacts in the country.”

The celebration includes music, storytelling, crafts, credited historians, artists and artisans. Hot chocolate and bannock will be served all day. To view the full program visit http://www.mmf.mb.ca/docs/louis_riel_day_program_web_2018.pdf
