Manitoba Budget Announcement Completely Disregards the Metis Nation

Winnipeg, MB – Today the Province of Manitoba tabled a budget which completely ignores the Metis Nation.

“Manitoba should be embarrassed by this budget,” said David Chartrand, President of the Manitoba Metis Federation. “There is absolutely no reference to the Metis Nation and no accountability for the hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes our hard-working Citizens pay each year.”

“Today is a sad day once again. The Pallister government has chosen to select one Indigenous peoples to focus on and will attempt to prioritize First Nations over the Metis and Inuit peoples,” added President Chartrand.

“It is clear that this government does not consider the Metis Nation important. It’s been 148 years since Manitoba was brought into Confederation by the Metis people and our Citizens continue to be disrespected time and time again,” continued President Chartrand.

“There are some Metis representatives in the legislative assembly, and we will be asking some very important questions come election time,” concluded President Chartrand.
