MMF President and Manitoba Ministers to Meet Today on Critical Issues

The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) President David Chartrand will be meeting this afternoon at 3:00 pm at the Manitoba Legislature Room 314 with Manitoba Minister Colleen Mayer of Crown Services and Minister Eileen Clarke of Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

MMF President Chartrand has always promoted open dialogue for reconciliation and working towards resolving differences between the Métis Nation and Manitoba. This is a long-awaited meeting on issues important to the Manitoba Métis and, indeed, all Manitoba Citizens.

In the Ministers’ August 16th letter, responding to President Chartrand’s letter dated July 3, 2018, stated that many of the issues cannot be discussed because of the current litigation, including the MMF-Manitoba Hydro July 2017 Agreement that the Pallister Government has directed Hydro not to proceed with. The MMF states that the Government has breached the honour of the Crown and other constitutional duties.

Already the Ministers are inhibiting and are attempting to control the much-needed dialogue. There are elephants in the room. Despite this, President Chartrand will continue his good faith approach and meet today with the Ministers. President Chartrand will provide an update of the outcomes of the long-awaited meeting after the meeting.

Believe in Yourself; Believe in Métis.
The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the official democratic and self-governing political representative for the Métis Nation’s Manitoba Métis Community. The Manitoba Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partner in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
