MMF Flags at Half-Mast for New Zealand Islamic Community

Winnipeg, MB – The Manitoba Métis Federation leadership and staff are disheartened to learn of the senseless act of terrorism that took place at the New Zealand mosques yesterday. The MMF, as the Metis Nation’s Manitoba Metis Community Government, wants to assure our Muslim neighbours, here and around the world, and our Metis Citizens, that it will always stand against Islamophobia and these horrendous acts of violence. We will continue to condemn the language of intolerance and acts of hate.

“My sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in this attack,” expressed MMF President David Chartrand. “Speaking on behalf of all Manitoba Metis citizens, I want to convey our solidarity and we stand side-by-side with all New Zealand citizens during this difficult time.”

The MMF President, Cabinet and staff offers our prayers for comfort, strength and courage to those grieving today. As a sign of solidarity and respect, the flags at MMF home office will fly half-mast.

Believe in Yourself; Believe in Métis.

The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the official democratic and self-governing political representative for the Métis Nation’s Manitoba Métis Community. The Manitoba Métis were Canada’s negotiating partner in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
