MEDIA RELEASE Manitoba Metis Federation Praises Bill C-99 Winnipeg, MB – The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) supports Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen and welcomes the proposed changes to Canada’s citizenship oath. Introduced yesterday as Bill C-99, the changes will require new Canadians to swear they will faithfully observe the laws of Canada, including the Constitution, which recognizes and affirms the Aboriginal and treaty rights of the Métis Nation and other Aboriginal Peoples. "Bill C-99 is another important step in the right direction towards reconciliation," said MMF President David Chartrand. "The Métis Nation is a rights-bearing Indigenous People, the Founders of Manitoba, and Canada’s Negotiating Partner in Confederation.
