MMF Congratulates the Liberal Party of Canada on its Federal Election Win

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) congratulates the Liberal Party of Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on winning the federal election.

"I want to thank Metis Citizens for casting their vote and making it very clear that the Metis Nation will ensure its voice is always heard," said MMF President David Chartrand. "We look forward to working side by side, once again, with the Liberals in advancing the interests of the Metis Nation."

Under the Trudeau government, $2.4 billion is being invested in the Metis Nation toward better outcomes for Metis Citizens in regards to housing, youth, daycare, education, economic development, and much more.

On behalf of Metis Veterans, the MMF also expresses gratitude to Prime Minister Trudeau for advancing reconciliation and helping to amend a 75-year injustice in this country. By acknowledging Veterans' efforts and contributing $30 million to surviving Veterans and their families, the Trudeau government is fulfilling the promise that was made 75 years ago to give them a head start after serving their country in the Second World War.

"The federal Liberal government has demonstrated that nurturing a Distinctions-Based, Nation-to-Nation, Government-to-Government relationship is the road to success," said President Chartrand. "We look forward to continuing our positive federal governmental relationship that puts true reconciliation in motion through the sharing of our language, culture, and recognition of the incredible contributions the Metis Nation has made to Manitoba and Canada."
