On May 4, 2015, the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) and Manitoba Hydro entered into an Agreement whereby Hydro agreed to pay a defined amount to identified Summerberry Commercial Trappers as compensation for the negative consequences caused by the operation of the Grand Rapids Generating Station on the trapping rights of the identified Commercial Trappers of the Summerberry Marsh.

The MMF has administered this Agreement and, distributed compensation to many surviving Trappers and/or their Eligible Survivors. Eligible Survivors are the surviving spouse, common law partner or biological/adopted child of a deceased Trapper. MMF, has not located or received any communication from the Trappers listed below or, any Eligible Survivor of these Trappers.

The Summerberry Commercial Trappers compensation agreement deadline is quickly approaching. Unresolved Summerberry Compensation Claims

There are 892 trappers eligible for compensation under the Summerberry Trappers Settlement and the MMF is actively seeking entitled beneficiaries. We are seeking the assistance of the Manitoba Métis Community to identify all of the Trappers on the lists, so that we can ensure they receive the long overdue compensation to which they are entitled.

The MMF encourages everyone to review the lists of Trappers below to identify any relatives they may have who are entitled to receive compensation, as well as identify any Trappers who are now deceased and/or have no living entitled beneficiaries.

We would also like to encourage the citizens of our community to review the lists below to assist us in finding those individuals for whom a compensation claim has not yet been processed.

The MMF will be hosting a series of community meetings in the coming months to assist in identifying individuals for whom the compensation claim is unresolved. In preparation for the meetings, please review the lists below.

Unsettled Claims

The MMF is seeking entitled beneficiaries to finalize these claims. To date, we have been unable to connect with the Trappers or beneficiaries for the files. If you know of or can identify any of the individuals in the list linked below, please contact us or ask them to contact us.
