Administrative/Student Support Clerk - Louis Riel Institute

As an affiliate of the Manitoba Metis Federation, the Louis Riel Institute (LRI) is responsible to the Métis people of Manitoba to provide programs, resources and services related to education and culture.

The Louis Riel Institute seeks to fill one Full-time Administrative/Student Support Clerk position located in Winnipeg, MB.

Administrative/Student Support Clerk

The Administrative/Student Support Clerk will provide support to both staff and students of our Adult Learning Centre and Louis Riel Institute. The main functions of this position are to answer a multi-line telephone console, greet and direct visitors, receive, process, and distribute incoming mail and deliveries and perform related administrative tasks. The incumbent is responsible for the support and retention of Adult Learning Centre students; assisting in the recruitment, intake, orientation, documentation, and assessment of students; acting as the first point of contact for students and entering student information into the ARMS database.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Administrative Assistant diploma is considered an asset
  • Certificate or experience in career development/counselling/career counselling field
  • Experience working with barriered people
  • Extensive knowledge of post secondary programs and the requirement/application process
  • Comfortable working collaboratively and independently
  • Experience creating and maintaining filing systems including both hard copy and electronic files is considered an asset
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines while multitasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer applications including MS Office Suite, MS Office 2010 with working knowledge of Access
  • Experience answering a multi-user switch board
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Metis culture
  • Knowledge of MMF programs and services
  • Acceptable Criminal Records check and Child Abuse Registry check
