The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratic Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one summer term Camp Lead position within our Métis Employment & Training Department. The MMF is developing a youth leadership camp in Winnipeg, MB, and the camps are set to run between the beginning of July and the beginning of September (Monday to Friday), with the expectation that successful applicants will be able to commit to the full length of this term.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Maintain a good working atmosphere, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed, and safety is fulfilled daily;
  • Manage intake for all campers, including tracking camp registration and attendance;
  • Keep a record of each camper's personal information, detailing allergies, dietary restrictions, health issues and emergency contact information;
  • Coordinator daily activities and review with camp mentors giving a clear understanding of the planned activities, safety precautions and contingencies;
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to camp mentors ensuring that activities, schedules, and meals are implemented in accordance with the daily schedule;
  • Act as the primary coordinator and facilitator for all camp maintenance and supervision duties;
  • Prepare and present an evaluation of weekly camps, outlining ability to meet the goals and objectives, strengths and weaknesses and participation with scheduled activities.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is required;
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with children and youth in a similar environment (i.e., camp programs, rec programs, or child-care);
  • A demonstrated passion and interest in a relevant area: sport, fitness, physical literacy, art, STEM, etc.;
  • Ability to swim and be comfortable in open water activities and in wilderness type environments if required;
  • Can be active both physically/mentally as well as able to stay engaged for long periods of time;
  • Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check;
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
