Cartographer - Louis Riel Institute

As an affiliate of the Manitoba Metis Federation, the Louis Riel Institute (LRI) is responsible to the Métis people of Manitoba to provide programs, resources and services related to education and culture.

The Louis Riel Institute seeks to fill one Full-time, Term, Cartographer position located in Winnipeg, MB.

The River Lot Project focuses on land ownership of the River Lots in Winnipeg to which a full report on the findings is complete. The candidate will design and prepare maps, graphs and charts that represent/ supplement the research. This is a fall project with the term ending December 31, 2022.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Continue the research of landownership in Winnipeg
  • Use historical and contemporary maps of the City of Winnipeg to create an overlay map display
  • Compile aspects of completed research report into displays
  • Reliable and able to work with minimal supervision in order to continue research

Skills and Qualifications:

  • University Education or relevant equivalent experience and training may be considered
  • Experience supporting other team members
  • Ability to meet deadlines while multitasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer applications including MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of Metis culture
  • Knowledge of LRI & MMF programs and services
  • Acceptable Criminal Records check and Child Abuse Registry check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination
