The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratic Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Mining Coordinator position within our Energy, Infrastructure, and Resource Management Department located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the Director of Energy, Infrastructure, and Resource Management, the Mining Coordinator is responsible with developing, negotiating, and implementing Métis partnerships in the mining field.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Develop mining policy options and recommendations based on extensive research and analysis to identify and seize opportunities of business, employment and training in the resource sectors including traditional economies;
  • Present information and options to the Ministers responsible for the Mining portfolio as well as those of the MMF Cabinet, and to develop planning options;
  • Draft quarterly and yearly reports to government, attend meetings and articulate MMF positions and interests to internal and external parties;
  • Assist in policy development through the development of concept papers, briefing notes, issue papers, analysis of policy concerns and consultations with Manitoba and Canada and with Métis constituents and other departments of MMF on business, employment, and training opportunities;
  • Prepare program and funding proposals.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the social or natural sciences, native studies, business administration or relevant field;
  • Three years' experience in project management or administrative role;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is an asset;
  • Experience negotiating with federal and provincial departments;
  • Experience in policy development;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
