The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) is the official democratic and self-governing representative for the Metis Nation's Manitoba Metis Community. The Manitoba Metis are Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Retention and Support Worker position within our Metis Employment and Training Department located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. As part of the MET Recruitment team and working under the direction of the Recruitment Coordinator, the Retention Support Worker conducts assessments of clients to determine employment needs and eligibility for MET programs and services.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Provide assistance with the recruitment, documentation and assessment of trainees for MET project-based training initiatives;
  • Counsel clients in career and employment issues including career exploration and awareness, planning and job readiness;
  • Assist clients with job search skills by assisting with preparation of resumes and cover letters, job search strategies, and preparing for job interviews;
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress against established employment/training action plan;
  • Research and access labour market information and job postings utilizing the Internet, local newspapers and other professional publications;
  • Establish and maintain a network of contacts with community organizations, school divisions, training institutions, and other government programs and services.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree, certificate or diploma in the Social Sciences field or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Employment/Career/Education Counseling experience;
  • Experience in case management;
  • Experience establishing and maintaining good working relationships with a diverse array of partners, clients, and co-workers;
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of Metis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
