The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Species at Risk (SAR) Project Specialist position within our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department located at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, MB. The SAR Project Specialist will be responsible for engaging with Red River Métis Citizens to determine SAR priorities, coordinating the SAR file and SAR-related activities for priority species and places.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Ongoing collaboration with partners and external consultants on MMF engagement on SAR priorities;
- Manage information and knowledge gathered from workshops, meetings and interviews;
- Prepare reports based on information gathered from workshops, surveys, and interviews;
- Departmental coordination to determine governmental species at risk priorities and project objectives with summary report to inform future planning;
- Collaborate with external consultants on best approaches to engage Red River Métis Citizens on SAR priorities;
- Engage with Red River Métis Citizens at ongoing wildlife meetings and other outreach activities to broadly understand citizen and harvester concerns and priorities pertaining to SAR;
- Development of Red River Métis Citizen engagement plan based on guidance provided by internal and external partners.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Studies, Resource Management, and/or equivalent education will be considered;
- Minimum 2 years experience in policy and program development and/or an equivalent combination of experience;
- Experience within an Indigenous organization and/or government is considered an asset;
- Experience in data research, analysis, and presentation, including report writing;
- Experience working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Microsoft Office is considered an asset;
- Strong analytical, problem solving, time management and organizational skills;
- Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
