MMF President David Chartrand
This summer has truly been a season to celebrate with all of the numerous cultural events throughout Manitoba and the Homeland to honour the Year of the Metis Nation. Despite this being a time for many of us to enjoy outdoors with our families, there continues to be much activity within your Metis Government including recent announcements that directly relate to the health of our people.

Manitoba is the birthplace of the Metis Nation.

The Metis are a people of North American Indian and European ancestry who coalesced into a distinct nation in the northwest in the late 18th century.

The Metis were a prominent and independent people in the 19th century and rose to resist the takeover of their homeland. Unfortunately, the immigration from Ontario, the United States and Europe was too strong and destructive, and the Metis Nation was overcome following a second resistance by Louis Riel.
