The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.

The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Heritage Resource Specialist position within our Energy, Infrastructure and Resource Management Department located at 200 Main Street in Winnipeg, MB. The Heritage Resource Specialist will work to assist and support the Portfolio Lead with building and maintaining relationships and collaborating with the team to achieve project success on a variety of energy and infrastructure related matters to strategically plan, develop, and manage the MMF's Energy and Infrastructure portfolio.

Job Duties/Competencies:

  • Develop and implement heritage management strategies for archaeological sites of significance to the Red River Métis;
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Leads in the planning, implementation and evaluation of heritage monitoring programs;
  • Prepare detailed reports, review heritage impact assessments, and develop site management plans;
  • Collect, organize, and analyze information collected and prepare a final report on findings;
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, cultural heritage organizations, and government agencies to ensure compliance with heritage laws and policies;
  • Research and draft applications for project related funding opportunities;
  • Manage cultural heritage data, including GIS mapping, archival research, and digital documentation;
  • Attend, coordinate and facilitate community workshops and meetings.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Heritage Management, or a related field;
  • Minimum of two years of field experience in historical archaeology, preferably in Red River Métis, fur trade, or colonial-period contexts;
  • Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and digital heritage management;
  • Strong knowledge of heritage management principles and relevant Canadian legislation;
  • Project management experience, including grant writing and budgeting;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills;
  • Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
  • Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle.
