Unity in Crisis: How the MMF is providing relief during the Manitoba wildfires

July 18, 2025

As the province-wide state of emergency continues to unfold, the National Government of the Red River Métis is doing everything it can to support Citizens and their families in whatever they may need.

With the state of emergency continuing to evolve across Manitoba, the National Government of the Red River Métis is doing everything it can to provide support to displaced Manitobans in whatever capacity they may need.

Here is what the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is doing to assist wildfire evacuees during this time.

  1. An evacuation site has been established

Wildfire evacuees can access donated supplies and hot meals at 406 McGregor Street.

On May 29, the MMF established the first Evacuation Reception and Donation Drop Off Centre located at 406 McGregor Street (Winnipeg Region Office), offering donated supplies and meals to evacuees daily from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Manitobans who have been displaced by the wildfires can come to the centre and access the following:

  • Donated supplies (personal hygiene products, baby supplies, clothing, etc.)
  • Hot meals, snacks and refreshments
  • Games and activities
  • Children's books and movies

If services are needed outside of these hours, please call 1-888-362-2012.

  1. Manitobans have been housed at multiple locations during this time

During this state of emergency, Citizens and their families have been relocated to safe accommodations across Manitoba.

In collaboration with Red Cross, the MMF has helped establish and relocate evacuees at various congregate sites across the province. The MMF has also established multiple camps across Manitoba to accommodate evacuees, ensuring they have safe, temporary housing during this time.

  1. Volunteers are stepping up

If you are interested in volunteering, please call 1-431-294-7452.

As the National Government of the Red River Métis, we wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all those who dedicated their time and efforts volunteering at our various evacuation and donation centres. With the new state of emergency being declared, we are inviting individuals interested in contributing their time and efforts to support our evacuation centre upon its reopening.

We also encourage Citizens who can offer their support to those affected by the fires through the following ways:

  • Volunteer their time at our donation centres
  • Transporting supplies and displaced evacuees to their accommodations
  • Providing meals to evacuees in need

With numerous donation centres, there is no shortage of volunteer opportunities. To get involved, please contact our volunteer coordinator at 1-431-294-7452.

  1. Businesses across the province are coming together in support of wildfire evacuees

MMF staff, affiliates, and Red River Métis businesses across the province are coming together in support of the wildfire evacuees.

The MMF acknowledges the remarkable efforts and contributions of businesses in supporting those affected by the province-wide fires. Whether through financial donations, supply donations, providing hot meals, or volunteering at our donation centers, the contributions of these businesses are truly appreciated.

If you are a business owner interested in being involved during the province wide state of emergency, please contact Cindy Allard at cindy.allard@mmf.mb.ca, or 204-801-9245 .

  1. We are accepting all forms of donations

Donations can be dropped off at 25 Ray Marius Road in the Transcona Industrial Park area from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The MMF has established a secondary donation site to accommodate the outpour of essential items being donated to evacuees at this time. Physical donations, aimed at meeting the essential supply needs, can be delivered to 25 Ray Marius Road in the Transcona Industrial Park area. Donations can be dropped off 7 days a week from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

As of now, hygiene products are particularly crucial for evacuees. If you are able and willing to contribute, please consider donating these items to our donation centres. A detailed list of needed items continue to be updated the MMF website and social media channels. Additionally, the MMF is continuing our efforts to collect monetary donations to aid those affected by the wildfires. 1. Our pharmacies are filling prescriptions for evacuees

MEDOCare Pharmacy is actively working to distribute essential medications.

It is vital that people have access to medications that may have been lost or need to be replaced due to the evacuation notice. MEDOCare Pharmacy, our Red River Métis-owned and operated pharmacy with locations across Manitoba, is actively working to distribute essential medications, ensuring the health needs of our Citizens and their families are being met.
