May 3, 2022

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Cabinet of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis, passed a resolution directing the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to hold an Election for the positions of President of the MMF and Vice-President and Regional Executive Officers in each Region.

The CEO has set the date for the Election in accordance with the MMF Constitution. The Election for all positions will be held on June 14, 2022, with advance polls on June 10 and June 11 and other dates as necessary to ameliorate the effects of the ongoing pandemic.

All Red River Métis Citizens, that are at least 18 years of age, are eligible to vote. Citizens who meet the qualifications in the MMF Constitution may run for office. The deadline for nominations to be filed is May 13, 2022, at 5:00 pm CDT.

Elections for the Government of the Red River Métis are required every four years and the last Elections were conducted in 2018. A copy of the resolution was transmitted to David Gray, CEO, on May 3, 2022, and he issued a Notice of Election.

The MMF is comprised of seven Regions: Thompson, The Pas, Northwest, Southwest, Southeast, Interlake, and Winnipeg. There are over 40,000 registered Citizens who will be eligible to vote in the Election. Polls will be located in every Active Local that wishes a poll across Manitoba. There are approximately 75 polls planned for the seven Regions.

Planning for the Election has been underway for several months and Deputy Returning Officers in most Locals have been appointed and all necessary supplies have been secured. Mr. Gray said, "we are as ready as we can be at this point in the electoral cycle. Our team is committed to increasing participation and to a transparent, open election process."

Persons in remote communities or who reside outside of Manitoba may be eligible for a mail-in ballot. The deadline for Citizens to apply for a mail-in ballot is May 24, 2022.
