MMF's Early Learning & Child Care Department Celebrates Week of the ECE

April 29, 2024

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - During the week of April 28th - May 4th, 2024, all Manitobans come together to honour Early Childhood Educators, Child Care Assistants, Centre Directors, and everyone who works everyday to better the learning opportunities for the children of Manitoba. Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation's (MMF) Early Learning & Child Care Department celebrates and expresses deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the educators at our childcare centres, and affiliated childcare centres.

"We know that the educators at our centres make a significant difference to our children, our Red River Métis families and the communities we live in," said Frances Chartrand, MMF Minister of Early Learning & Child Care. "Happy children need inspiring and compassionate role models, and Red River Métis children need to grow up feeling proud and immersed in their identity and culture. By taking care of our children in this way, we are taking care of the future of the towns and communities we live in, as well as the future of the Red River Métis and our Homeland."

Providing culturally competent, well-educated, trained, and well-compensated educators in healthy, equitable and supportive work environments is the goal of the MMF - the National Government of the Red River Métis. Today, we encourage our families and all Manitobans to show appreciation to the educators in your child's life, like;

- Having your child make a homemade card

- Offering a hug, a handshake and a thank you along the way

- Bringing coffee or a homemade treat

"Early childhood educators create the building blocks of our children's education and sense of self," said Minister Chartrand. "I applaud the work they do, and thank all educators for helping our children thrive and grow."
