Special Statement from President Chartrand on the passing of Murray Sinclair

November 4, 2024

On behalf of the Manitoba Métis Federation's Cabinet, Staff, and Citizens, I would like to extend our prayers and sincerest condolences to Murray Sinclair's family, friends, and colleagues upon his passing.

Having worked with Murray, we knew him as a great leader, a good friend, and a strong ally. His work and activism helped shape Canada's approach to partnering with Indigenous Peoples and his legacy he left will undoubtedly positively affect our country for generations to come.

Murray was a champion of Indigenous rights - First Nation, Inuit, and Red River Métis - here in the province of Manitoba and across Canada. His work as a lawyer, judge, senator, commissioner, politician, and chancellor solidified himself as an influential role model for all Indigenous Peoples and indeed all Canadians.

We give a heartfelt thank you for all that he has done. He will be sadly missed but his words, actions, and presence will never be forgotten.

David Chartrand
President
MMF - National Government of the Red River Métis
