Special statement from President David Chartrand and Northwest Region Vice-President Frances Chartrand regarding victims of bus accident on Highway 1
June 16, 2023
Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - On behalf of the Red River Métis government, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the tragic bus accident that took place in the heart of our Homeland of Manitoba, and their families who are learning of these terrible losses.
While it is unclear whether or not Red River Métis families have been directly affected by this event, the MMF stands ready to offer its full support to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy. In the coming days, we will be in touch with the families and communities that have been affected by this horrible event, ensuring they have what they need as they grapple with their pain. The loss of Elders, and their love, knowledge and guidance, is heartbreaking, and we know this will be felt by many in the Northwest Region, beyond their immediate families.
Our hearts are also with the investigators who must work through the aftermath of this series of events, and we thank them in advance for their service to the community as they begin to address the questions we know our Citizens have.
To those who have lost loved ones to this tragedy, know that you are in our prayers and our hearts. The flags at our buildings will be flying half-mast as we come together as a community and give comfort to one another through our grief.
