The MMF is partnering with Western Arctic Marine Training Center to provide two commercial vessel safety courses for Red River Métis Citizens.
Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety - May 11, 2026
This course teaches basic safety for crew on small commercial vessels. It covers emergency procedures, survival skills, and onboard safety awareness. This course is required for crew members and is also suitable for new mariners, seasonal workers, small-vessel crews, and anyone seeking entry-level marine jobs.
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency - May 12 to 15, 2026
This course is for people who want to operate small commercial boats under 5 gross tonnes, mainly in sheltered waters or near coasts. The course teaches basic navigation skills, understanding weather, and following safety rules. It prepares learners to handle a boat, make safe decisions, and respond to emergencies.
Travel and accommodations will be covered. Space is limited, so please register early.
