Critical information regarding wildfire state of emergency

July 10, 2025

To all Red River Métis Citizens,

Today, the Province of Manitoba has declared a state of emergency due to the rapidly spreading wildfires across Northern Manitoba. In response to this, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) will continue with our emergency response to support Citizens and their families who are being affected by these fires - particularly those who have been given evacuation notices and members of surrounding communities. See below for information intended to keep our Citizens informed about the developments following the state of emergency declaration.

Ste. Madeleine Local Métis Days

In light of the current state of emergency in Manitoba, we have decided to postpone our annual Ste. Madeleine Heritage Local Métis Days celebrations to prioritize the well-being of our communities during this crisis. Please visit our website for updates as they become available.

Donation Centre and Contributions

On July 12, our Evacuation and Drop-in Centre located at 406 McGregor Street (Winnipeg Region Office) and 25 Ray Marius Road will be reopening to provide essential support to evacuees. Our goal is to ensure that all individuals have access to necessary items such as clothing, hygiene products, hot meals, and any other essentials during this time of need.

Hygiene products are particularly crucial at this moment. If you are able and willing to contribute, please consider donating these items to our donation centre. A detailed list of needed items are as follows:

  • Hygiene products and personal items
  • (New) Socks and underwear
  • (New) 2X and up men's clothing
  • Bottled Water
  • Snacks and non-perishable foods
  • Baby care items
  • Strollers and car seats

The hours of operations at our donation centres are as follows:

  • 406 McGregor Street - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily
  • 25 Ray Marius - 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily

Additionally, the MMF is continuing our efforts to collect monetary donations to aid those affected by the wildfires. Stay tuned on our website for more information to come.

Volunteers

As the National Government of the Red River Métis, we wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to all those who dedicated their time over the past 6 weeks to assist at our various evacuation and donation centres. With the new state of emergency being declared, we are inviting individuals interested in contributing their time and efforts to support our evacuation centre upon its reopening.

We also encourage Citizens who can offer their support to those affected by the fires through the following ways:

  • Transporting supplies and displaced Citizens to their accommodations
  • Providing meals to Citizens in need

If you are interested in volunteering, please email us at emergencyvolunteers@mmf.mb.ca or call 1-431-294-7452.
