Ste. Madeleine Heritage Local Métis Days - Postponed
Dear Red River Métis Citizens,
Due to the severe weather and storm-related impacts across various Regions of our Homeland due to flooding, we have decided to postpone our annual Ste. Madeleine Heritage Local Métis Days celebration.
Ste. Madeleine Métis Days is more than an event, it is a living expression of our community, our history, and our identity. For many, this is a time to return home, to reconnect with family, to walk the same grounds as our Ancestors and grandparents, and to keep our traditions alive in a real and meaningful way.
We recognize the years of hard work by those who have come before us to keep these traditions alive. And our goal is to honour all their legacies and celebrate them as we continue to move forward.
The decision to postpone was made with a heavy heart and logistics in mind. With the Parkland region and surrounding areas currently experiencing significant flooding, access to the sacred grounds of our Ancestors has been impacted, making it unsafe and challenging to host the event as planned.
As of now, we are hoping that the celebrations of our rich Red River Métis history will take place August 21-23. We look forward to welcoming Citizens to the celebrations with culturally focused programming, games, activities, workshops, and contests for all to enjoy.
We ask that Citizens stay up to date on MMF social media platforms for all future updates regarding this event.
