Infinity Women Secretariat welcomes Canada's Budget 2025 investments into Red River Métis women and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals
November 5, 2025
Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Infinity Women Secretariat (IWS), proud affiliate of the MMF, National Government of the Red River Métis, extends its appreciation to Canada for the pre-budget announcement of $660.5 million over five years as well as the inclusion of investments in the economic security of women, Youth and 2SLGBTQ+ in today's budget announcement.
"I am pleased to see the investments into women and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals being made by Canada," said Anita Campbell, Spokeswoman for IWS. "For the Red River Métis, a matriarchal people, women have always played a significant role in the economic life of the family, community, and Nation. IWS consistently supports Red River Métis women through engagement on gender-based violence prevention, intervention, and support, entrepreneurship and economic empowerment opportunities, leadership development, and community engagement. Funding like this means we can continue and even expand this important work."
IWS stands as the national voice for Red River Métis women, with members from across the Homeland, united in identity, values, and kinship. Established in 2013, IWS is committed to promoting, empowering, and enhancing the social, cultural, economic, and political well-being of members. IWS has since become a dynamic and recognized leader in the empowerment of Red River Metis women and community.
IWS holds no affiliation with Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO) - an organization which erroneously claimed to be the national voice of Métis women across the Motherland in a release commending Canada for its pre-budget funding announcement last week. IWS withdrew from LFMO in 2021 due to ongoing accountability and management concerns, as well as a fundamental incompatibility of perspectives on who belongs to our Nation.
IWS will continue to focus on its bilateral relationship with Canada, to ensure that the funding opportunities introduced in the pre-budget announcement, as well as the investments noted in today's budget release, are directed appropriately and benefit the intended individuals.
"When a country faces economic turmoil, women are disproportionately affected, and Indigenous women even more affected than their non-Indigenous counterparts," said Spokeswoman Campbell. "Investing in economic strength for women and 2SLGBTQ+ people is a show of wisdom in Canada's leadership, because no country, people, or nation can be strong unless everyone is strong."
