MMF Announces Youth Entrepreneurship Program

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) announced a new program to encourage entrepreneurism in Manitoba Métis Youth: the Youth Entrepreneurship Program ("YEP").

This program, aimed at Métis Youth ages 18 to 29 with an entrepreneurial spirit, will provide assistance for skill development and financial supports to help bring Métis Youth's business ideas to life.

"The Youth Entrepreneurship Program was created to ensure that innovation and inspiration are encouraged among our Métis Youth," said Richard Genaille, MMF Minister of Sports & Youth. "With this, we hope to build their futures as businessowners and further economic development in our Manitoba Métis Community."

This program will be provided by the MMF's Metis Employment and Training (MET) department and Louis Riel Capital Corporation (LRCC), an MMF affiliate. Together, both MET and LRCC will ensure that each successful applicant has a customized experience to gain the supports, resources, and knowledge necessary to help get them established.

Eligible clients have the opportunity to receive:

• A small business grant contribution that provides up to 40% of total project costs - at a maximum of $5,000; OR
• Or a small business loan that provides:
  • Up to $20,000 in capital
  • Flexible payment terms; deferred payments or interest only throughout off- season
  • Terms up to 48 months

This could be an open loan with no penalty for additional principal payments. Security maybe required. Minimum credit score may be waived.
