MMF celebrates grand opening of Dauphin's newest and tallest main street building

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, celebrates our expanding presence in the Northwest Region of Manitoba, with the official opening of our new building at 422 Main Street South in Dauphin. It will hold a regional governance office and pharmacy, located near our childcare facility and the future home of our wellness centre and Citizen housing units.

"In spite of COVID-19, we persevered and purchased the Métis Community Center, opened Michif Children's Place and built this new, three-story office space in the centre of Dauphin," said Frances Chartrand, Vice-President for the Northwest Region of the MMF. "These activities are only a portion of the investment the MMF has made in the Parkland region. We have also built a childcare centre in Swan River and both a governance office and a childcare centre in Duck Bay. With the purchases of various properties and the hiring of staff and local contractors, we've already made an investment of over $10 million dollars in the Parkland area, and that doesn't include the wellness centre and the new housing that will be coming for our Citizens."

The new building at 422 Main Street South alone represents an investment of almost $5 million. It will house more than one hundred MMF staff members to support programs and services for Citizens, an exercise facility for staff, and a new pharmacy on the first floor, which is expected to be open to the public in the new year.

"Having a state-of-the-art facility for our Citizens and staff in the Northwest was the vision of the late Vice-President of the Region, Elbert Chartrand," said Vice-President Chartrand. "Though he died of a heart attack on September 24, 2012, we have spent the last ten years working to realize his vision and building on it with new elements like housing and the wellness centre. I am so proud of the team that helped us achieve this goal. I look forward to helping more Citizens from this new governance office and showing that the Red River Métis government is always ready to invest in the communities our Citizens call home."
