MMF re-establishes partnership with the Manitoba RCMP, renews Métis Community Initiatives Coordinator Position

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Yesterday, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to renew their formal relationship to support distinctions-based policing priorities for the Red River Métis.
MMF's Minister of Justice, Julyda Lagimodiere, joined Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy, Commanding Officer of the Manitoba RCMP to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to renew the RCMP Métis Community Initiatives Coordinator position. The MOU re-establishes an RCMP position within the MMF to support policing priorities for the Red River Métis.
"The National Government of the Red River Métis welcomes the partnership announcement by the Manitoba RCMP," said MMF Minister of Justice, Julyda Lagimodiere. "The outcomes of this MOU can help build a strong relationship between RCMP and Red River Métis Citizens, particularly when they are facing challenging situations. It will re-establish our government's relationship with the RCMP to work directly in support of our distinct needs to improve our relationship with Law Enforcement".
The first MOU between the MMF and the RCMP was signed in 2010 and extended until 2018. Yesterday's signing signifies a renewal of the partnership between the MMF and the RCMP.
"This renewed MOU reflects the progress we have made together and the trust that continues to grow through open, honest communication," said Assistant Commissioner Scott McMurchy, Commanding Officer of the Manitoba RCMP. "The Métis Community Liaison Officer is a tangible investment in our relationship-ensuring consistent dialogue, early problem-solving, and stronger, safer Métis communities across the province."
The Memorandum of Understanding also outline shared objectives for strategic priority development, improved relations, service enhancement, communications, community policing, restorative justice, education for prevention and recruitment.
