MMF to close offices for day of mourning to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

September 16, 2022

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, will close all offices on Monday, September 19, 2022, in recognition of the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II.

The MMF's closure and day of mourning will coincide with the Queen's funeral in London, U.K. and a commemorative ceremony that will be held in Ottawa. All staff will be given the day off to reflect on Her late Majesty's countless contributions to Canada and the Commonwealth.

On behalf of all Citizens, we thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for ensuring patriation of the Canadian constitution in 1982 - recognizing the Métis as one of the three Indigenous peoples in Canada and affirming our Aboriginal and Treaty rights.

The MMF hopes all Canadians will have the opportunity to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II for her remarkable reign and unwavering commitment to public service and duty.

May Her late Majesty rest in peace.
