National Government of the Red River Métis welcomes Canada's Budget 2025 investments
November 5, 2025
Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), National Government of the Red River Métis, welcomes Canada's Budget 2025 as it relates to strengthening the economy, as well as investments that could benefit the Red River Métis. The MMF will seek greater clarity about what is available in the coming days and weeks.
"While the budget is dense and will take time to fully analyze, we believe it will provide the needed generational economic transformation," said David Chartrand, President of the MMF. "However, we must also ensure that the Red River Métis are not forgotten, and we expect to see confirmation of our inclusion in the funding. Clearly, the Red River Métis Government has outstanding questions about the implications of the budget for our Citizens which will only be answered over time and in conversation with Canada."
The MMF welcomes the confirmation of $2.8 billion for the Urban Rural and Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy. These will enable the MMF to continue making great strides in the Red River Métis Housing Strategy, which addresses the needs of our seniors, families, new homeowners and vulnerable Citizens. This announcement will equip the MMF with the resources to continue scaling up with higher density projects.
The Red River Métis Government is also pleased to see investments in Youth, women, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, as well as a further investment in advancing supports for the return of responsibility for our children in care to us through child welfare legislation (Bill C-92). Also highlighted were future investments into the Port of Churchill, procurement and procurement set asides for Indigenous businesses, as well as national defence, which is anticipated to change the face of northern Manitoba, for the betterment of all who live there.
"It's clear we are facing challenges from the United States and its leadership which presents Canada with both threats and opportunities," said President Chartrand. "We must all work together to secure our country, our economy, and our way of life for future generations - the economic vision of Budget 2025 is our path forward. We look forward to our meeting with the Prime Minister to address our priorities and learn what is available to our Citizens across the country. As long as Canada continues to invest in us, we can continue to invest in Canada."
