The MMF presents $50,000 to the Christmas Cheer Board during Lighting up the Heart of the Homeland celebration

Winnipeg, MB, in the National Homeland of the Red River Métis - Today, the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF), the National Government of the Red River Métis, proudly lit up a Red River Métis Christmas lighting display at 200 Main Street, as a message of goodwill and festive cheer to all our Citizens, as well as our neighbours and visitors in the heart of the Homeland.

"The MMF remains committed to investing in Christmas traditions that bring joy and wonder to families," said David Chartrand, President of the MMF. "Memories of the holiday season last a lifetime, and are so often about sharing experiences and being together. We know that taking a tour of festive lights across the city or the province can make magical memories for children, and we're happy to be a part of it."

At the event, the MMF also announced a $50,000 donation to the Christmas Cheer Board, which was received by Shawna Bell, the Executive Director of the Christmas Cheer Board. The MMF has a long-standing relationship with the Christmas Cheer Board - spanning over 25 years - recognizing the importance of the work the Christmas Cheer Board does to bring joy, happiness, and community support for the holiday season.

"At a time of economic challenge in the world, it's important to remember that some families are going to be hit harder with job losses or financial uncertainty," said President Chartrand. "The National Government of the Red River Métis recognizes that some of the hardest hit by these economic downturns will be our own families. We know that the efforts of the Christmas Cheer Board make a difference to so many, and we share their vision of ensuring a bright and happy Christmas for all children, with a feast on the table and a present under the tree. We encourage other governments, organizations, and institutions to do their part. Manitoba has proven over and over again that it is a province that cares - now is the time to show that care to our youngest residents."
