Voting for the 2026 Red River Métis National Elections is closed

DAVID GRAY, Chief Electoral Officer for the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) - the National Government of the Red River Métis - today announced unofficial, preliminary results in the MMF election held June 23, 2026. The Elections Office will now review the materials as they are received from the polling locations and certify the results. That is expected to be done within days.

There were 22 positions open for election, namely, President of the Manitoba Métis Federation, one Vice-President of the Manitoba Métis Federation for each of the seven Regions, and two Regional Executive Officers for each of the seven Regions.

Of the 22 positions, the following candidates were declared elected by acclamation:

David Chartrand, President;
Denise Thomas, Southeast Regional Vice-President;
Andrew Carrier, Winnipeg Vice-President;
Judy Mayer, The Pas Vice-President;
Frances Chartrand, Northwest Vice-President;
Shawn Nault, Southeast Regional Executive Officer; and
Marielle Gauthier, Southeast Regional Executive Officer.

All the above are incumbents. The preliminary results for the remaining positions are attached.

The persons leading in the preliminary lists are:

Thompson VP - Julyda Lagimodiere

Interlake VP - John (Jack) Park

Southwest VP - William Goodon

Thompson Regional Executive Officer (two positions) - Vincent Mark Parenteau and Mildred Dorion

The Pas Regional Executive Officer (two positions) - Linda Camille Bertholet and Darrell Ferland

Northwest Regional Executive Officer (two positions) - Peter Fleming and Richard Genaille

Southwest Regional Executive Officer (two positions) - Barbara Fleury and Wesley Hannah

Interlake Regional Officer (two positions) - Mona Buors and Clint Webb

Winnipeg Regional Officer (two positions) - David Beaudin and JoAnne Remillard

Candidates who are within 25 votes of being elected are entitled to request a recount from the Chief Electoral Officer. At present, only three races appear to qualify for a recount if requested, subject to verification. Candidates have a maximum of seven days to request a recount.
