Update Three: Important donation centre update and online fraud prevention
June 10, 2025
To all Red River Métis Citizens,
The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is doing our best to ensure Red River Métis Citizens are staying up-to-date as the state of emergency brought on by the wildfires continues to unfold across the province. See below for important updates regarding essential item donations and online fraud prevention.
Important donation centre update - 770 Leila Avenue and 25 Ray Marius Road
Please note that the donation drop-off at 770 Leila Avenue and 25 Ray Marius Road have reached capacity and will be closing, but we continue to accept vital donations at 406 McGregor Street.
To ensure we're providing the most effective support to evacuees, we kindly ask that donations be limited only to essential and new items listed in our donation guidelines available on our website. Donations outside of our requested items can be taken to Centre Flavie at 301 Archibald Street, where important supplies will be delivered to those in need as quickly as possible.
Online fraud prevention
We recognize our Citizens' continued support as we navigate the wildfires across Manitoba. The Red River Métis exhibit remarkable resilience during times of crisis, as seen in the willingness of our Citizens to come together during this state of emergency. However, it is important to note that this solidarity should never come at the expense of personal safety.
Recently, the MMF has been made aware of spam emails circulating that falsely claim to be from the Red Cross, requesting that people provide their banking information.
These messages are fraudulent - the Red Cross would never ask for your banking details to process payments from them.
If you receive one of these emails, do not respond or share any personal information. Stay safe and cautious online.
For all Citizens who are interested in volunteering or donating, please visit mmf.mb.ca/emergency-management-and-response and for information on how best to handle identifying and preventing online fraud, visit our website at mmf.mb.ca/mmf-fraud-prevention.
