Sign the National E-Petition

The Sixties Scoop and Residential School Department, encourages Red River Métis Citizens, families, Survivors, Elders, Knowledge Sharers, youth, Locals, Regions, allies, business and community partners to sign and share the national e-petition to the House of Commons, sponsored by MP Leah Gazan.

This petition calls on the Government of Canada to provide statutory, long-term funding for the search and recovery of missing children and unmarked graves; protect Survivor healing, cultural supports, and community-led wellness services; uphold the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; and ensure this sacred work remains Indigenous-led and Survivor-centred.

For our People, this work is deeply personal. Our Survivors, families, and communities continue to carry the impacts of Residential Schools, Day Schools, the Sixties Scoop, and other colonial systems that sought to separate our children from their families, culture, language, identity, and Nation. The search for missing children who went to Indian Residential School, the protection of Survivor supports, and the continuation of healing services must not be treated as short-term projects.

Our children must not be forgotten.

Our Survivors must be supported.

Our healing work must continue.

Our responsibilities as Indigenous Peoples cannot be sunsetted.

We call on our Citizens and all those who stand with Survivors and families to sign the petition, share it widely, and encourage their networks to take action.
